Cookie policy

Last updated: 6 October 2026

This page explains which cookies and similar techniques S.A.F.E. Academy uses. It should be read with our Privacy policy.

We keep this modest on purpose. There is no advertising network on the Academy, and we do not set tracking cookies for ads. Optional cookies, such as those from an embedded video, are only set after you give permission in our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a site stores in your browser. Some are essential (you cannot log in or keep a basket without them). Others remember a preference or help a payment form work. Similar techniques include local storage in your browser — we use that for private course reflections, which never leave your device.

Who sets them

Most cookies here are first-party: they belong to S.A.F.E. Academy. A few are set by Stripe on checkout so you can pay by card. We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or similar advertising pixels on this site today.

Cookies we use

Login and security

WordPress sets cookies such as wordpress_logged_in, wordpress_sec and wordpress_test_cookie. They check that cookies work, keep you logged in, and protect the session. They last for the visit, or longer if you choose “remember me”.

Shop and basket

WooCommerce sets cookies such as woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart and wp_woocommerce_session. They remember what is in your basket and that you are in a checkout session. They last for the visit, or up to a few days for the shop session.

Courses

LearnDash uses session cookies so we know you are enrolled and can remember progress through modules, lessons and topics. They last for the visit, or while you stay logged in.

Payments

When you pay by card, Stripe loads Stripe.js and may set cookies such as __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid. Those are for fraud prevention and completing the payment. Stripe sets them; they typically last from the visit up to about a year. Stripe’s own notices apply.

Private reflections

The words you type in a course reflection are kept in local storage on your device. We do not upload that text. We only record that you completed the exercise. It stays until you clear site data for this website.

Your cookie choices

Our cookie banner (Complianz) stores your choice in cookies such as cmplz_banner-status, cmplz_functional, cmplz_preferences, cmplz_marketing and cmplz_policy_id, so we do not have to ask again on every page. They last up to 365 days.

Embedded video

Some pages show a video hosted on YouTube. Until you accept marketing cookies or choose to load the video, you only see a placeholder and YouTube sets nothing. Once the video loads, YouTube (Google) may set cookies such as YSC, VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE and PREF to play the video and measure viewing. Google’s privacy policy applies to what YouTube processes.

Why we need the essential ones

Without the WordPress and shop cookies you cannot create an account, stay logged in, add Module 1, 2, 4 or the full programme to your basket, or pay. Without the course cookies the twelve-week programme cannot remember which week you are in. These are strictly necessary for the service you asked for.

Stripe’s cookies on checkout are necessary to take payment securely. Stripe’s own notices apply to what Stripe processes as a payment provider.

What we do not do (today)

  • No advertising cookies.
  • No social-media tracking pixels.
  • No “sell your browsing to a data broker” tools.
  • HeartOSINT, when you open it, is a separate product by Riskoria. If that tool sets its own cookies, Riskoria’s policy applies there.

How you can control cookies

You can delete cookies and site data in your browser settings, or block third-party cookies. If you block all cookies, login, basket and checkout will stop working. You can also use a browser’s private mode; you will need to log in again next time.

You can change or withdraw the choice you made in our cookie banner at any time:

On most browsers you will find this under Settings → Privacy → Cookies (the labels vary).
